Baseball Trio Tabbed Summer League All-Stars
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball will be represented in two summer league all-star games this year. Freshman RHP Ryan Clark (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) has been selected to participate in the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) All-Star Game for the Roberto's Kids team while sophomore RHP Max Povse (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) and sophomore outfielder Eric Kalbfleisch (Pilot Mountain, N.C./North Stokes) were chosen to play in the Valley League All-Star Game as part of the South Division squad.
Clark has amassed a 3-1 record for the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs in five appearances (all starts) and owns a 2.70 earned run average in 30 innings pitched. His three wins are tied for the most in the league and he has also produced a NYCBL second-best 30 strikeouts – averaging eight per game. Clark has allowed just nine earned runs and walked only four batters.
The 2013 Southern Conference All-Freshman Team selection is also batting for the Chiefs and boasts a .294 batting average with two RBI, two runs scored and a double. He has a hit in four of five games at the dish.
Povse is 2-1 with a 4.35 ERA in five games and 31 innings pitched for the Staunton Braves. He currently sits fifth in the league in strikeouts with 33 and has walked just five. In his most recent start, Povse went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts in Staunton's 11-10 victory over the Waynesboro Generals. He did not factor into the decision.
Meanwhile, Kalbfleisch has helped his Harrisonburg Turks club to first place in the South Division as he is batting .321 over 23 games played. The rising junior has tallied 26 hits, four doubles, a triple, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. He has also drawn nine walks and has a stolen base to his credit. Additionally, seven of Kalbfleisch's 23 contests played have resulted in multiple-hit performances.
The NYCBL All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9 at McDonough Stadium in Geneva, N.Y. while the Valley League All-Star Game is slated for Saturday, July 7 at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va. The contests will begin at 7 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
