Kalbfleisch Named Valley Baseball League All-Star Game MVP
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore outfielder Eric Kalbfleisch (Pilot Mountain, N.C./North Stokes) went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI singles on his way to being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 Valley Baseball League All-Star game at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va., Sunday evening.
Kalbfleisch, who plays with the currently first-place Harrisonburg Turks, helped lead the South All-Stars to a 5-1 win over the North squad.
Kalbfleisch recorded a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to extend the South's lead to 3-0. He drove in Staunton center fielder Blake Sipe who led of the frame with an infield single. Kalbfleisch added his second RBI single in the top of the eighth inning and Covington shortstop Craig Nennig added a RBI double to finish off the scoring in the bottom of the ninth.
Sophomore right-hander Max Povse (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) joined his collegiate teammate in collecting post-game hardware as he was named the South Team's Most Valuable Pitcher. Povse gave up just one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief. He earned the save for the South team.
