Baseball Begins Road Swing At Wake Forest
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG wraps up its season series with Wake Forest Tuesday, traveling to Winston-Salem for a non-conference contest at the Wake Forest Baseball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Spartans were swept by Western Carolina over the weekend to drop to 2-6 in Southern Conference play, but the Blue and Gold does own a 12-10 non-league ledger. UNCG won the first meeting of the campaign Feb. 25 in Greensboro, using a walkoff solo home run by junior Hunter King (Mason City, Iowa/Northern Iowa Area CC) to down the Demon Deacons 11-10 in 10 innings.
The Spartans enter the midweek contest hitting a SoCon-best .309 as a team with six players batting .312 or better. The Spartans also sport a 4.96 earned run average. Senior Sean Guite (Huntington Beach, Calif./Irvine Valley CC) is having a stellar campaign - pacing the team and the league in batting average at .403 while also leading the SoCon in runs scored. UNCG will send freshman LHP Andrew George to the mound for the series opener as he is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA. George did not pitch against Wake Forest in the teams’ earlier meeting.
Guite currently owns an 11-game hitting streak while juniors L.J. Kalawaia (Wailuku, Hawai'i/Ohlone College) and King sport streaks of 15 and 13 games respectively.
Wake Forest comes in batting .262 as a team with a 3.56 earned run average. Grant Shambley paces the squad with a .337 average with Evan Stephens second at .336. Opponents are batting .246 against a Demon Deacon pitching staff that will send RHP Connor Johnstone to the bump vs. George. Johnstone is 1-2 this season with a 2.43 ERA and three walks against 14 strikeouts. He did not pitch in the teams’ first meeting this season.
Following the midweek contest, UNCG will travel to Georgia Southern for a three-game series in Statesboro. The Spartans and Eagles will begin the set Friday at 6 p.m.
