Sean Guite Named BCBSNC Blue Chip Performer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior infielder Sean Guite (Huntington Beach, Calif./Irvine Valley CC) has been named this week’s Blue Chip Performer sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. This is the second year that BCBSNC has sponsored the Blue Chip Performer award, which is chosen weekly from all sports in season and runs throughout the 2013-14 UNCG Athletics season.

Guite tallied 10 hits in 20 at bats over five games this week as the Spartans went 3-2 with a win over East Carolina and a doubleheader sweep of Princeton. He hit .500 with an on base percentage of .560 and slugging mark of .800 and began the week with a 1-for-3 performance at East Carolina in a 6-5 road victory in which he also recorded a RBI, drew a walk and hit a sacrifice fly.

During his solid week, Guite tied two school records with six hits in seven at bats and five runs scored in an 11-10 victory over Princeton in the first game of a doubleheader. He also tallied two doubles and two triples in the contest. Guite then followed that performance with a 3-for-5 effort in game two of the doubleheader to go along with two runs scored and a RBI. Guite finished the doubleheader against the Tigers 9-for-12 with seven runs scored, two doubles, two triples, a walk, a sac fly and a RBI.

Guite currently leads the Spartans and the Southern Conference in batting average with a .414 mark with a team-best 29 hits in 70 at bats. He also has five doubles and two triples to his credit and sports an on base percentage of .543 and a slugging percentage of .481.
