Chambers Earns Second-Straight SoCon Offensive Player of the Week Honor
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second-straight week, UNCG senior outside hitter Karrian Chambers (College Station, Texas/A&M Consolidated) has been named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week according to an announcement Monday by the league. It is her third weekly accolade of the season.
Chambers ended the regular season with two solid efforts against Elon and Davidson as the Spartans won both matches to clinch fourth place in the standings – the highest ever non-divisional finish for the Blue and Gold since joining the league.
She racked up 30 kills (4.29 per set), 18 digs (2.57 per set) and four blocks (0.57 per set) and posted a double-double in the season finale against the Wildcats on Senior Night with 17 kills and 11 digs. It was her 11th double-double of the season. Chambers also helped lead UNCG to a sweep on the road at local rival Elon to sweep the season series as she tallied 13 kills, seven digs and two blocks while also hitting .346.
The Blue and Gold enters this weekend’s 2013 Southern Conference Volleyball Championship as the No. 4 seed and will take on fifth-seeded Appalachian State Friday (Nov. 22) at 10:00 a.m. inside Furman University’s Timmons Arena. Should the Spartans advance, they will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 1 Georgia Southern and No. 8 Elon Saturday at 5 p.m.
