GREENSBORO, N.C. – As the 2013 UNCG volleyball campaign draws near, read what the most experienced members of the team are thinking as they enter their senior seasons. Next up is Spartan middle hitter Olivia Humphries.
How does it feel finally arriving to your senior season?
It feels bittersweet. I am excited for a final season but I am sad that being a college athlete will be something of the past after this season.
What advice can you give to the youngest members of the squad as they begin their collegiate journey?
It goes by so much faster than you think. It feels like yesterday that I was standing on the endline at Virginia Tech listening to the national anthem play before I was about to compete in my first college match. Give it your all and enjoy EVERY moment because you will regret it if you don't.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to the opportunity we have as a team to win the conference. With all but one of our starters returning, and the addition of four new players, we should have a solid squad coming into the season.
What impresses you most about Coach Nicholas?
His enthusiasm and passion for the game.
In three words, how would you describe UNCG Volleyball?
Competitive, enthusiastic, family
UNCG Volleyball gets tremendous support from fans and spirit groups. What has that meant to the team over the years?
I cannot explain how much we appreciate the support we have received over the past few years. The atmosphere in the gym during a home game is infectious and really motivates us. I think volleyball is one of the most exciting sports and the addition of the band and cheerleaders makes it not only a fun sport to watch, but a fun environment to be a part of as an athlete and a fan.
What will you miss most about being a member of the program?
I will miss being part of an incredibly close team. We struggle together and we grow together, we win together and we lose together. Being a part of a team, no matter what kind of team it is, is an incredible experience. I have been a part of a team for as long as I can remember so it is going to be so strange to leave that. I will also miss being a part of the athletic department as a whole. My college courses may have prepared me for a career, but my experience as a college athlete has prepared me to excel in all aspects of life.
