Volleyball Enjoys Success At UNCW Sandblast Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG volleyball team continued its successful spring schedule over the weekend, traveling to Wilmington as participants in the first-ever UNCW Sandblast Tournament.
"This weekend was a blast," junior Olivia Humphries said. "We went out to the beach tournament expecting to have fun, but who knew everyone would do so well! We had a chance to have a lot of fun and bond with each other while still working on our volleyball skills. The things we worked on in the sand will only make our indoor game better. We look forward to seeing how those skills transfer when we play Wake Forest tomorrow night!"
Junior Karrian Chambers and sophomore Emily McMurtrey reached the finals of the gold bracket and matched up against Katherine Santiago, Morgan Freeman and Julia Westerbur. The trio was the only team in the tournament to go undefeated in pool play. Humphries teamed up with classmate Kellie Orewiler to claim the silver bracket title.
The Spartans will wrap up the spring Wednesday, April 17 when they play host to Wake Forest for an exhibition match at Fleming Gymnasium. Admission is free to the match which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
