Women's Tennis Set for Road SoCon Matches this weekend
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s tennis team travels on the road for a pair of Southern Conference matches this weekend starting against second-place Chattanooga Saturday, April 5 at noon at the UTC Tennis Courts in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Spartans will finish the trip with a match against other second-place foe Samford at 11 a.m. in Birmingham, Ala.
The Spartans sit at 7-9 with a 4-1 SoCon mark after defeating Charlotte 6-1 Wednesday afternoon. Junior Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) is 8-8 overall in singles and holds a 4-1 SoCon record. Classmate Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Broward Virtual School) is 9-7 with a perfect 5-0 record in league play.
Freshman Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./ Indian Rocks Christian) and senior Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey/Gunes Koleii) are 6-1 for the season in doubles play. Falcon and Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School) are 4-4 in doubles overall but have a perfect 4-0 mark in league matches.
Chattanooga is 14-3 overall and tied with Samford for second in the league race at 5-1. The Mocs will be hosting the 2014 SoCon tournament on April 16-19 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga. Junior Kaylene Chadwell is 14-2 at No. 2 singles this spring and a perfect 6-0 in league play. Chadwell and senior Alexa Flynn lead the way in doubles posting a 9-1 mark at No. 1 doubles. They are also unbeaten at 6-0 in SoCon play.
Samford enters the match at 14-2, 5-1 in league action. The Bulldogs are led by Stephanie N’tcha, who holds a 12-3 overall record and is 7-3 at No. 1 singles. Yasmeen Ebada is a perfect 6-0 in SoCon play and has won her last three matches. In doubles, Kristin Lewis and N’tcha are 5-0 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
