Women’s Tennis Kicks off SoCon Play Against the Eagles Sunday 02-28-2014

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The UNCG women’s tennis team will begin conference play Sunday at noon as the Spartans welcome in the Eagles of Georgia Southern.

The Spartans are 2-4 on the year after they rallied back last weekend to defeat Gardner-Webb 4-3. With the Spartans leading 3-2 in the match, sophomore Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) clinched the match with a straight sets win against Valeriia Popko, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

“It's our first conference weekend and we have Georgia Southern coming in to kick-start our SoCon season,” head coach Jeff Trivette said.  “This is what we work for.”

Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/ Newcastle Under Lyme School)  leads the Spartans with a 4-2 record for the spring.

Georgia Southern is 4-3 overall and most recently fell to Kennesaw State.

“We are excited for the challenge, Trivette said. “If we play well we always have a chance to win. Our success will be determined by how hard we work for every single point.”
