Women’s Tennis Welcomes Gardner-Webb For Saturday Match 02-21-2014

GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNCG women’s tennis team will host in-state rival Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m at UNCG Tennis Courts.

“It's been a great week of practice,” head coach Jeff Trivette said. “All of us have been excited to be outside in great weather.”

The Spartans come into the weekend sitting at 1-4 on the year, after falling to UNCW last weekend. UNCG’s win comes at the hands of the Spartans of USC Upstate, after a 6-1 victory February 9.

Gardner-Webb is 6-1 on the year with wins over North Carolina A&T, Erskine, North Greenville, Wingate, Western Carolina and Presbyterian. The Runnin’ Bulldogs lost to Charlotte in early February.

“We are looking forward to competing against Gardner Webb,” Trivette said. “It will be a challenge to our young team, but also another chance to gauge our improvement.”

In singles, Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/ Newcastle Under Lyme School) leads the Spartans with a 4-1 record for the season.
