Women's Tennis Opens 2014 season against Wake Forest

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s tennis team kicks off its 2014 season with a road match against Wake Forest Monday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

The Spartans return two seniors in Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey/Gunes Koleji) and Devon Sutherland (Lake Wylie, S.C./Clover). Juniors  Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) and Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Broward Virtual School) also return from a season ago.

UNCG has five sophomores competing to crack the lineup in Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School), Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), Alisha Burton (Charlotte, N.C./Zebulon B. Vance), Asha Iyengar (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) and Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School).

The Blue and Gold have two freshmen that will compete in their first dual-match of the season in Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) and Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael).

Wake Forest also will play in its first dual-match of the season playing a doubleheader taking on the College of Charleston at 9 a.m. before facing the Spartans at 2 p.m. The Demon Deacons return five plays from last year’s squad in addition to adding four freshmen. Junior Karen Forman had a strong fall season with a 11-3 record, including a win in her flight at the Wake Forest Invitational.
