WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNCG women’s tennis team completed day one at the Wake Forest Invitational Friday night at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
In singles, freshman Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) picked up a straight sets victory against Mackenzie Lasure (Appalachian State), 6-2, 6-1. Classmate Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) won in straight sets against Stetson’s MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell, 6-4, 6-2.
Sophomore Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Brittian/Newcastle Under Lyme School) cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win against Charlotte’s Jessica Perez.
Junior Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) fell in straight sets to Andrea Retolaza (Wake Forest), 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) battled but lost to Richmond’s Anna Abadias, 7-5, 6-2.
Sophomore Asha Iyengar (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) lost to Winthrop’s Camille Amrani, 6-4, 6-1, while Alisha Burton (Charlotte, N.C./Zebulon B. Vance) fell to Beth Williamson (Winthrop), 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, Franco and Grinberg picked up an 8-5 victory against Ormond/Earnest (BSU). The duo fell in the quarterfinals to Elon’s Jansaker/Johnston, 8-2.
Ellis and Falcon went 1-1 when they defeated Hill/Lepinay (Stetson),8-4, after the pair fell to Wake Forest’s Guerin/Retolaza, 8-1, in the first round.
UNCG remains at the Wake Forest Invitational for Day Two starting Saturday morning at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
