Women’s Tennis Announces 2013-14 Slate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's tennis head coach Jeff Trivette announced a tough 2013-14 schedule Friday that includes two nationally ranked opponents from last season. The Spartans return four players from last year's team that went 14-7.
The team will be facing nationally ranked teams North Carolina (No. 4) and Elon (No. 70) among other challenging opponents. UNC participated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament with the Tar Heels falling in the elite eight.
The Spartans open the fall season with the Elon Fall Invitational Sept. 13-15 before heading to Charlotte for the Charlotte Fall Invitational (Sept. 20-21). UNCG makes a short trip to Winston-Salem for the Wake Forest Fall Invitational Sept. 27-29. The team will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the ITA Regional Championships (Oct. 17-21) before finishing the fall season in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at the Roberta Allison Invitational (Nov. 1-3).
The Blue and Gold finished the 2013 spring season with a 14-7 record, including an 8-2 mark in league play that earned them the fourth seed in the SoCon tournament.
The Spartans start off the 2014 campaign Jan. 20 on the road at Wake Forest. Two days later, UNCG will face off against No. 4 UNC. The team will welcome East Carolina Feb. 7 for its home opener starting a stretch of five home games.
UNCG takes on Atlantic Sun member USC Upstate (Feb. 9) before hosting in-state rival UNCW on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the UNCG Tennis Courts. The Spartans continue their home swing with Gardner-Webb (Feb. 22) and start off SoCon play March 2 against Georgia Southern at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Blue and Gold travel to the sunshine state to face Stetson (March 9) and Florida International (March 13). UNCG returns home to battle Longwood (March 16) and start a four game home stand. The Spartans next face Winthrop (March 18) before two SoCon matches against Wofford (March 21) and Furman (March 22).
UNCG travels to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State on Thursday, March 27 before returning home to take on Middle Tennessee (March 29) at the UNCG Tennis Courts. The Spartans face Western Carolina on the road closing out the month of March.
The Blue and Gold finish the non-conference schedule with a home match against Charlotte Wednesday, April 2 at the UNCG Tennis Courts. UNCG next takes on Chattanooga (April 5) and Samford (April 6) on the road. The Spartans take on nationally ranked Elon (No. 70) to finish out their home slate on April 10.
UNCG finished the regular season with a road contest against Davidson (April 12).
The 2014 Southern Conference Championship will be held April 16-19 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
