Women's Tennis Canceled Against Charlotte; Hosts Davidson

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's tennis program cancelled Saturday's match against Charlotte and will host fellow Southern Conference member, Davidson Sunday, March 24 at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center at 12 p.m. 

"It's been a long week," said head coach Jeff Trivette. "We began preparing for three matches and we have had to cancel our matches with UNCW and Charlotte because of bad weather. We are anxious to get back on the court and compete." 

The Spartans were last in action when they defeated Gardner-Webb on the road, 7-0. 

Senior Annette Rios (Santa Ana, El Salvador / Liceo Latinoamericano) and sophomore Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / Broward Virtual School) defeated Jenny Lunde and Erica White at No. 1, 8-7 (8-6).  

At No. 2, Senior Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) and sophomore Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) won 8-4 against Yasmin Doost and Rokia Sacko.  

Freshmen Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill) and Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain / Newcastle Under Lyme School) won their match by default at No. 3.  

In singles play, Whitehead beat White at No. 1 in an easy two sets, 6-3, 6-3, while Rios took down Doost in a close 7-5, 7-5 match at No. 2.  

At. No. 3, Falcon dueled Lunde to win 7-5, 6-3. Gammie fought in three sets to beat Valeriia Popko at No. 4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.  

Freshman Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain / Tile Hill Wood School) picked up a Spartan victory 7-5, 6-3 against Sacko at No. 5, while Grindberg won her match at No. 6 by default. 

Davidson is coming off of a 7-0 loss to Elon. The Wildcats hold a 7-4 record and are 0-2 in SoCon play.
