Grinberg Qualifies for Main Draw at USTA/ITA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) went 2-0 in qualifying singles, earning an entry in the singles main draw Thursday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

Grinberg defeated ECU’s Nicole Laduca in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 in her first match before earning a tough three set win against Jenny Lunde (Gardner-Webb), 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, to clinch a berth into the singles main draw.

Grinberg will now face No. 1 overall seed Beatrice Capra (Duke), who is ranked No. 27 in the ITA rankings, Friday at 10:30 a.m.
 
Freshman Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) fell to No. 1 seed Bryn Khoury from Elon, 6-2, 6-1 in qualifying singles.

Junior Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) will take on Winthrop’s Alice Garcia in the singles main draw Friday at 4 p.m.

In doubles, Grinberg and Franco lost to Furman’s Karlee Brvde and Ansley Speaks, 8-4, in the first round of the doubles main draw.
