Ahmet Sarioglu Named SoCon Player of the Week
Sarioglu began the week with a narrow defeat to Elon’s Cameron Silverman in a third-set super tiebreak, falling 6-3, 6-7, 10-4. The Ankera, Turkey, native then posted straight-set wins over Appalachian State’s Sebastien King (6-4, 6-4) and Davidson’s Robert Lightbourn (6-0, 6-1).
In doubles competition, Sarioglu began the week at the No. 2 spot with Daniel Mack, where they dropped an 8-3 decision to Elon’s Brian Kowalski and Robert Lindgren. Sarioglu then moved up to the No. 1 doubles position with James Dougherty, where the Spartans’ top pair posted wins over Appalachian State’s King and Zach Bost (8-7 [7-2]) and closed the week with an 8-4 victory over Davidson’s Lightbourn and Connor Evins.
UNCG (12-6, 5-2 SoCon) will close out the regular season Friday (April 11) when the Spartans visit The Citadel (2-26, 0-7 SoCon).
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State’s Oliver Casey, Elon’s Brian Kowalski, Georgia Southern’s Christian Kerrigan, Samford’s Elliot Barnwell, Chattanooga’s Luke Saunders and Wofford’s Rob Galloway.
