Men's Tennis Battles East Carolina in Road Match Thursday

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The UNCG men’s tennis team will travel to Greenville, N.C. to take on the Pirates of East Carolina Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. 

The Spartans sit at 7-4 after a tough spring break trip with matches against North Florida and UCF.

James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia), Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./ Park Vista) and Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood), all hold 8-3 singles records for the Spartans and Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) is 8-2 for the spring. For doubles play, Dougherty and Phillips have a 8-2 mark thus far. 

East Carolina sits at 13-4 on the season, and has won three straight after sweeping its spring break trip. The Pirates defeated Florida Southern 9-0, and Florida Atlantic 4-2. 

Joran Vilegen leads the Pirates with an 11-2 singles record for the spring season.  On the doubles side, Vilegen and partner Colin Roller sit at 8-2.

Following Thursday’s match, the Spartans will be on the road for a pair of weekend SoCon matches. UNCG will battle Furman Saturday, Mar. 21 at 2 p.m. and Wofford on Sunday at 1 p.m.
