GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNCG men’s tennis team will host a pair of matches this weekend as they welcome in UNC-Asheville and Gardner-Webb to the UNCG Tennis Courts.

The Spartans will battle the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. on Saturday and take on the Runnin’ Bulldogs on Sunday at noon.

“We are very excited to have two home matches this weekend against two of our in state rivals,” head coach Thomas Mozur said.

The Spartans sit at 2-2 on the year, after sweeping North Carolina Central and USC Upstate last weekend.

UNC-Asheville comes into the match 3-4 on the year and most recently fell to USC Upstate 4-3. Gardner-Webb is 3-6 for the season coming off an 8-1 win over Brevard on Monday February 17.

“This will be our first time outdoors this spring”, Mozur said. “The guys are hungry to play.”

Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) leads the team with a 3-1 record in singles play. Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./ Park Vista) and Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) sit at 2-1. On the doubles side, both pairs, Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) and Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankera, Turkey/ METU Development Foundation) and James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) and Phillips are 3-1 in spring play.
