ELON, N.C. – Junior Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) went 2-0 on day two earning a spot in the B1 singles draw at the Elon invitational Saturday night at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Smith defeated Georgia Southern’s K. Hoffman, 7-5, 6-4 and won in straight sets against J. Madrid (Elon), 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman Nazhone Wilkins (Burnsville, Minnesota/Home schooled) fell in the quarterfinals to Georgia Southern’s P. Kerrigan, 6-4, 7-5. Sophomore Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) lost in straight sets to Elon’s J. Kaufman, 6-0, 6-4.
In doubles, Dougherty and Mack lost to USC Upstate’s Simonetti/Tajes, 8-6 in the semifinals. Roueche and Murray fell to Moorhead/Salinas (JMU), 8-2 in consolation doubles. Wilkins and Smith lost to Elon’s Fortmann/Geaslen, 8-5 in the semifinals.
UNCG will compete in one more fall tournament before beginning the spring season in January: the Winthrop Fall Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. on Nov. 1-3.
