GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team will head to Elon, N.C. to take part in the Elon Invitational starting Friday, Oct. 25-27 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
“We need some results this weekend out of most of our players,” head coach Thomas Mozur said. “We have been putting in the time training but have yet to translate that into victories. We are also looking for a third doubles team to come about and someone needs to step up.”
The Spartans will be sending six players to the invitational. Senior Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) is 2-2 in the fall in singles matches. Joining Roueche, junior Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale), sophomore Gaston Murray(Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista), freshman Nazhone Wilkins (Burnsville, Minnesota/Home schooled) and James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia). Sophomore Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) leads the team with a 5-2 singles record coming off a solid showing at the ITA Carolina Regional making it to the round of 16.
In doubles, Wilkins and Smith will pair up for the first time this fall, along with Dougherty and Mack playing together. Also Roueche and Murray will round out the final doubles team at the Invitational.
UNCG will compete in one more fall tournament before beginning the spring season in January: the Winthrop Fall Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. on Nov. 1-3.
