Menís Tennis Finishes Play at USTA/ITA Carolina Regional

CARY, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team finished a strong showing at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships Saturday at the Cary Tennis Center.

The Spartans had sophomore Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) make the round of 16 against the best players in the state of North Carolina and South Carolina. Mack lost a tough match to NC State’s Robbie Mudge, No. 15 seed, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

In doubles action, junior Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) and sophomore James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) fell in the third round to North Carolina’s Oystein Steiro and Nelson Vick, 8-5.

UNCG has two fall tournaments left at the Elon Fall Invitational Oct. 25-27 and at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. Nov. 1-3.
