GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team will travel to the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships this week, matching up against some of the top talent in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina at the Cary Tennis Center.
"This is a great opportunity to play against the best teams and players in the nation," head coach Thomas Mozur said. "We can see how we match up with the best this weekend.
The tournament begins on Thursday with main draw singles and Friday will start main draw doubles. The event will conclude with finals matches in singles and doubles on Monday.
All six players will be in action Thursday starting with Smith taking on Campbell’s Steven Billington at 8:30 a.m. An hour later, Mack will face Ryan McMullen (Clemson) and Sarioglu plays William East from Central at 10 a.m.
Dougherty will make his fall season debut against Winthrop’s Dylan Comerford at 10 a.m. and Phillips will take on Ollie Casey from Appalachian State. Murray will face Presbyterian’s Grayson Mills at noon to complete the first day in singles.
In doubles, Phillips and Dougherty enter the tournament seeded No. 6 and hold a No. 44 ITA ranking. Sarioglu and Mack start their tournament Friday at 9 a.m. against Campbell’s Fernando Guillen and Marthinus Visser. Smith and Murray will take on Central’s William East and Daniil Gerasimov at 9 a.m.
