Sarioglu Highlights SoCon Men's Tennis Postseason Awards 04-15-2013

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG junior Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankara, Turkey/METU Development Foundation) was named men's tennis first team All-Conference, while sophomore Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood), freshmen James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) and Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) earned postseason honors, the league announced Tuesday. 

Sarioglu earned a first team All-SoCon selection in singles after a 6-3 record against league foes. Sarioglu was 8-7 overall and landed on the second team in doubles with Mack. They posted a 15-2 record in doubles that included an impressive 8-2 mark against league opponents.

Dougherty and Phillips were named first team All-SoCon in doubles after a 11-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in league play. In addition, rookie Dougherty was named to the league's all-freshman team after collecting 10 victories during the dual season, including five in SoCon play. Dougherty has a 10-4 record while playing at No. 2 singles for the Spartans.  

Lastly, Phillips earned second team all-conference at No. 4 singles thanks to his perfect 13-0 record during the dual season. Phillips was 8-2 in league play with a pair of losses coming at No. 3 singles. Phillips heads into the conference tournament with a team-best record of 15-2. 

The UNCG men's tennis team earned the fourth seed in this week's tournament. The Spartans play its first match on Friday, April 19, at 9 a.m. at the Burlington Tennis Center against fifth-seeded Chattanooga.
