Men's Tennis Faces UNF in Spring Break Trip

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The UNCG men’s tennis team has rescheduled its match against North Florida for Tuesday March 11 at 2 p.m.  The match was originally schedule for Wednesday March 12 at 2 p.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The Spartans are currently riding a seven game winning streak and sit at 7-2 for the spring season.  Six of the Spartans wins have been 7-0 sweeps.

UNCG started conference play with two 7-0 wins after taking down Chattanooga and Georgia Southern. Against the Eagles over the weekend, UNCG earned the doubles point to start up 1-0 on the day. At No. 1 doubles James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) and Randy Phillips  (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) defeated Christian Kerrigan and Daniel Rush 8-2. 

With Ahmet Sarioglu out of the lineup, the No.2 and No. 3 doubles lineups were adjusted a bit. Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) and Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) took down Kyle Hoffman and Nico DeGroof 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Daniel Mack  (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) and Nazhone Wilkins (Burnsville, Minnesota/Home schooled) defeated Albert Codina Sala and Marco Osorio 8-6.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Dougherty and Phillips sit at 7-1 on the season, with six straight wins. Sarioglu and Mack are 6-2 for the spring season.

Phillips leads the team with an 8-1 singles record. Murray and Smith are 7-1 so far and Mack is 7-2 with a national ranking of 106.  Phillips, Mack and Smith have all won seven straight matches, while Murray has won six in a row.
