KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – UNCG freshman golfer Carter Jenkins (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) won the 99th annual Carolinas Amateur Championship this weekend at the world famous Pete Dye designed The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island. Jenkins is now a four-time champion at Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) events with wins in the North Carolina Boys 13 & Under Championship (2008), Dogwood State Junior (2012) and the North Carolina Junior (2012) championships.

Jenkins, the reigning North Carolina Junior Boys Player of the Year, won the Carolinas Amateur by shooting an even par 288 (74-72-71-71) to win the championship by one stroke. He claimed the victory by shooting back-to-back 1-under par 71 Saturday and Sunday to pull out the one stroke victory.

Jenkins opened Sunday's round with a bogey on hole No. 1 before settling in with two birdies on the front nine on holes No. 5 and No. 7. He posted another birdie on hole No. 13 to go 2-under par at that point, before posting a bogey on the 18th hole to hold off Miller Capps by one stroke.

Jenkins and the Spartans will open the 2013-14 season Sept 14-15 with the Tarheel Intercollegaite tournament held at the Finely Golf Club in Chapel Hill.
