Men's Golf Finishes 11th At Gary Koch Invitational In Final Tune-Up Before SoCon
TAMPA, Fla. – The UNCG men's golf team closed out the 2012-13 regular season with an 11th place finish at the Gary Koch Invitational Tuesday at the Old Memorial Golf Course hosted by Auburn and Kentucky. The Spartans fired a final round score of 305 to finish with a 54-hole total of 904 tied with Ohio State.
Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) was the Spartans' top finisher, placing 29th overall with a 5-over par 221. Hoadley opened the tournament with a 3-over par 75 before posting back-to-back rounds of 1-over par 73. Rowin Caron of Florida State and Bo Andrews of Georgia Tech took home individual honors with a 9-under par 207 in the two-day event.
Freshman Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) continued his strong rookie campaign as he finished tied for 38th overall with a 7-over par 223. Coalson also started with a tough first round, notching a 5-over par 77 before rebounding with consecutive rounds of 1-over par 73.
Sophomore Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) finished in a tie for 59th place after posting a 231. Sophomore Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) placed 64th with a 235 while freshman Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) rounded out the lineup in 71st with a 238.
Florida State won the event with a 54-hole total of 23-under par 841 while Georgia Tech was second with a 16-under par 848.
The Spartans will be off until the 2013 Southern Conference Championships held April 21-23 in Charleston, S.C., at the Daniel Island Club.
