Men's Golf Signs Jake McGlone To NLI
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's golf head coach Terrance Stewart announced the signing of Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) to a national letter of intent Wednesday during the spring signing period. McGlone is the second student-athlete to sign for this year's class, joining Carter Jenkins (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) who signed in the fall, and both will join the Spartans in the fall.
"Jake has really developed into a good player over the last year and should compete for our starting lineup from day one," Stewart said. "He is an extremely hard-working student-athlete, who has the ability to be a very good Division I player."
McGlone is a four-year letterwinner at Charlotte Latin School and is a three-time All-Conference selection. He is rated the No. 17 player in North Carolina by the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) with a 74.88 stroke average so far this season. McGlone finished 10th at the Ballantyne Junior Open this season with a 1-over par 73. Last year, he placed fifth overall in the AJGA Preseason Junior at St. James Plantation with a 154 (79-75).
McGlone and Jenkins will join the Spartans who finished tied for fifth in the 2013 Southern Conference Championships and return four of their top five golfers from this year's team. The incoming duo will join a pair of SoCon All-Freshman selections this year in Taylor Coalson and Luke Haithcock for the 2013-14 season.
