Spartans finish 11th at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – UNCG men's golf team stayed steady Sunday at the Gary Koch Invitational, shooting a third-round team score of 301 to finish in 11th place. Roy Dixon paced the Spartans at the Old Memorial Golf Club with a 32nd-place individual finish.
The Spartans turned in a 54-hole total of 902 (306-295-301) and were also 11th after two rounds Saturday.
Dixon's three-round total was a 7-over par 223 (78-69-76).
Kyle Sonday continued his consistent play, carding a 75 in each of the three rounds. He finished with a total score of 225, landing him tied for 40th. Alex Ehlert also had a solid final round of 75, which jumped him seven spots in the standings into a tie for 50th (76-77-75=228).
Will Almand tied for 58th with a cumulative score of 231 (77-74-80) and Robert Hoadley shot a 75 Sunday to finish with 232 (78-79-75), moving him up six spots into a tie for 62nd.
Seventeenth-ranked North Florida blew away the field, finishing 20 strokes ahead of the No. 11 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Despite their commanding lead, the Ospreys didn't let up in the final round, shooting a 4-under par 284 for a tournament total of 843.
North Florida also took the top spot individually as Joey Petronio finished at 8-under par for the tournament. He beat his teammate Sean Dale and Auburn's Hunter Hamrick, who tied for second place, two strokes back. The Ospreys had three of the top four individual finishers.
The Spartans will travel to Charleston, S.C., April 15-16 for the Southern Conference Championships.
