Pair of Spartans card top-10 finishes; UNCG ties for second
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The UNCG men's golf team moved up on the final day of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate to finish tied for second place. Will Almand and Alex Ehlert turned in top-10 finishes for the Spartans, tying for eighth place.
UNCG and Old Dominion each shot a total score of 872 for the tournament, putting them just two strokes behind champion Missouri. The Spartans shot a collective 289 in the third round.
Almand and Ehlert each shot three-day totals of 217. Almand turned in another impressive round at the Kingsmill Resort-River course Tuesday, firing an even-par 71 to jump eight spots in the individual standings, while Ehlert closed with a 2-over par 73.
Kyle Sonday was not far behind as he finished tied for 12th with a 218 (71-74-73).
Robert Hoadley completed play in a tie for 20th with a final score of 221 (70-78-73). Roy Dixon finished tied for 53rd with a 226 (75-79-72) after shooting a 72 Tuesday, his best round of the tournament.
Kamito Hirai of Winthrop won the individual title. His score totaled 211, culminated by a 2-under par 69 in the final round.
UNCG will get back to action April 2 when it travels to Jackson, Miss., to compete in the Bancorp South Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss.
