Menís Golf Signs Josh Stockwell To NLI 11-15-2013

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s golf head coach Terrance Stewart announced the signing of high school standout Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Pinecrest) to a national letter of intent Friday. Stockwell will join the UNCG golf program in the 2014-15 season.

“Josh is an all-around student-athlete and will compete for a starting position next fall,” Stewart said. “He is a well grounded young man who only wants to help the team compete every week to win championships. The entire team and I are very happy to have Josh join our program.”

Stockwell made the semifinals of the Carolinas Golf Association North Carolina Men’s Match Play Championship in 2013. He posted scores of 67 and 70 in stroke play to advance to the match play portion where he defeated Trever Cone of Virginia Tech, John Varol of Wake Forest and Danny Pizetoski of Richmond.

Stockwell placed fourth in the Nature Valley First Tee Open on the Champions Tour in 2013, where he played with professional golfer Craig Stadler. He also won the Vantage Southbank Grandover Open (70-69) and the Mid-Pines Junior Amateur (66-77) on the Tarheel Golf Foundation in 2013.

Stockwell plays at Pinecrest High School and helped it win the 2013 4A North Carolina High School State Championship. Additionally, he is a member of the First Tee program in Pinehurst, which teaches young people, ages 7 to 18, positive and effective life skills utilizing the great game of golf.
