IRVINE, Calif. – UNCG junior Tatiana Alcala (Oxnard, Calif./Pacifica) will be playing for the Mexico national team at the 2014 Softball World Cup IX at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, California.
Alcala and the Mexico team will play six games and an exhibition against Team USA starting Monday, July 7 and ending Sunday, July 13. Along with Team Mexico, six other teams will be participating in the ninth World Cup of softball including Canada, USA, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Philippines and Venezuela.
Alcala is coming off a solid junior season at UNCG where she started all 57 games at shortstop. The Oxnard, Calif. native set career marks in average (.294), hits (50), runs scored (28), doubles (3), triples (4) and RBI (18). She led the SoCon with 127 assists at shortstop.
On Saturday, July 12, Alcala and Team Mexico will face Team USA in the first game of the day at 1 p.m. on ESPN 2.
After competing at the World Cup of Softball, Alcala will head to the Canadian Open International championship with Team Mexico starting July 15-21 in Surrey, British Columbia, where former teammate Katelyn Bedwell is from.
