Softball Faces North Carolina A&T in single game
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG softball team hosts cross-town rival North Carolina A&T for a single game Thursday, Mar. 27 at 4 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
This games was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 6 p.m. but has been pushed back due to weather in the Greensboro area.
The Spartans are 12-15 on the season and are 2-4 in the Southern Conference after dropping two of three against Samford on the road last weekend. UNCG currently is sixth in the nation in doubles per game at 1.83 per contest.
Senior Katelyn Bedwell (Surrey, B.C./Elgin Park) leads SoCon with a .407 average on 33 hits, 15 runs scored, 12 doubles, a home run and 20 RBI. Junior Dominique Madruga (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) is second with a .326 average on 15 hits, three doubles and eight runs scored. Freshman Tory Wright (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) sits third on the team with a .316 average on 24 hits, seven doubles, a home run and 13 RBI. Sophomore Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) is fourth with a .315 average on 23 hits, 10 runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI. Sophomore Nicole Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) continues to lead the team in numerous offensive categories including home runs (7), RBI (25) and slugging percentage (.679).
In the circle, senior Raeanne Hanks (Rainier, Ore./Rainier Senior) is 6-8 with a 3.93 ERA, including seven complete games in 87.1 innings. Nicole Thomas is 4-5 with one complete game throwing 54 innings in 19 appearances. Sophomore Lacey Leary (Norwood, N.C./Spartanburg Methodist) is 2-2 throwing 30.1 innings in 11 appearances with 16 strikeouts.
North Carolina A&T enters the game with a 8-13 record after dropping a 3-2 loss in extra innings against UNCW last Thursday. Dasia Moore leads the Lady Aggies with a .354 average on 23 hits, nine runs scored, seven doubles, one home run and nine RBI. Senior Sabrina Edmonds leads the team with four home runs. In the circle, freshman Maiven McKnight is 3-2 with a 4.82 ERA with four complete games in 52.1 innings.
UNCG improved its all-time record against North Carolina A&T to 38-2 after winning 8-0 in five innings back on Wednesday, Mar. 5.
