WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team concluded 54 holes of play at the difficult three-day Landfall Tradition hosted by UNCW at the Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course.
Alabama won the event with a 3-over par par 867 through three rounds to win by eight strokes over Duke. UNCG posted a 994 (330-332-332) in the 54-hole event against competition that included 14 nationally ranked teams.
Sophomore Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) recorded the Spartans top round Sunday with a 7-over par 79 to finish tied for 82nd at 244. Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Rekjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) also posted a 244 in the three-day event for an 82nd place showing as she finished with an 85 Sunday.
Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow leads the event individually with a 3-under par 213 (70-72), while Yu Lui of Duke was second at 1-under par 215.
In addition to the Spartans, the field features host UNCW, Alabama, Arizona, Clemson, Duke, Iowa State, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, South Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.
