GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team dropped a non-conference game against Liberty, 1-0, Thursday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans fall to 4-3 on the season, while Liberty wins its fifth-straight game improving to 5-1.
The Blue and Gold controlled most of the possession in the contest but the Flames scored an early first half goal that proved to be the difference.
In the first half, Liberty took an early lead after Alanna Dunkle scored from inside the box beating the keeper low.
UNCG tried for the equalizer when sophomore Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin)taking two shots, including a chance inside the box in the fifth minute but Holly Vannoord made a kick save to keep the Spartans off the board. In the 33rd minute, sophomoreKatherine Rodriguez (Franklin, Tenn./Father Ryan) took a free kick just outside the box but it went high over the goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Simmons(Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) finished with five saves. Vannoord picked up another shutout making two saves for Liberty.
