Softball Adds Pitching Signee Kelly Lupton for 2012
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG softball head coach Janelle Breneman has added pitching signee Kelly Lupton for the 2012 season.
"I am pleased to add a pitcher of Kelly's caliber to the roster for this coming season," said Breneman. "Lupton has had tremendous success on the mound for Absegami High School and for the Intensity Premier Gold 18U summer and fall team that plays a competitive schedule. Kelly is a talented pitcher and I am excited to add her to the already formidable pitching staff."
Lupton, a pitcher out of Atlantic City, N.J., was named to the All-South Jersey team and The Press First Team all-stars squad for Absegami High School. Lupton finished her senior season with 262 strikeouts and just 42 walks in 148 innings. She finished 17-5 with seven shutouts and two no-hitters, including one in the state playoffs against Egg Harbor Township. Lupton also set Absegami records for career strikeouts (684) and RBI (79). She batted .333 this season with two home runs and 18 RBI, while ending her career with 99 hits. Lupton was also a part of the Intensity Premier Gold 18U club team this past summer.
The Spartans will welcome six newcomers, including Lupton, to last year's squad that finished 22-34 with a 10-13 record in the Southern Conference. UNCG returns 11 players and All-SoCon Second-Team member Katelyn Bedwell who finished the 2011 season with 11 home runs.
