Katelyn Bedwell Named SoCon Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior first baseman Katelyn Bedwell (Surrey, B.C./Elgin Park) picked up her first career weekly award in being named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The selections are made by the SoCon office.
Bedwell was selected as the Player of the Week after hitting .429 with two home runs and six RBI in four games last week. Bedwell went a perfect 3-for-3 in a 7-1 victory against North Carolina A&T to start the week. In the series finale against Chattanooga, Bedwell lifted the Spartans with a three-run home run and a walk off two-run shot to give UNCG a wild 12-10 win.
The Surrey, British Columbia native had six hits, three runs scored, two home runs to help her continue to lead the Southern Conference in batting average (.411) and on base percentage (.472). Her three home runs are tied for second best on the team and has 26 RBI in 31 games. Bedwell is climbing the career RBI total sitting third all-time with 139 runs batted in.
