Softball Welcomes Alumni Back for Home Run Derby
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former student-athlete Heather Robb won the homecoming softball home run derby held at the UNCG Softball Stadium last weekend.
Robb hit 15 home runs to claim the title with former Spartan Leslie Furness (2006-09) coming in second place. In all, 14 former Spartans participated in the event.
Entering her second season head coach Janelle Breneman welcomes seven newcomers, while only three seniors departed due to graduation. Reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, Lindsay Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) hopes to improve upon her school-record 17 home runs last season. Senior Raeanne Hanks(Rainier, Ore./Rainier) returns in the circle after winning the SoCon Most Outstanding Player award during her impressive SoCon tournament run of 24 scoreless innings with 20 strikeouts.
The UNCG Softball team will host the 2014 Southern Conference softball tournament at the UNCG Softball Stadium for the second-straight year May 7-10
