GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s cross country team hits the road this weekend for the 2013 Southern Conference Championships which will be hosted by Samford at Veterans Park in Birmingham, Ala. The women’s 5,000-meter race is set for a 10:45 a.m. start after the men’s race.

The Spartans will be led by the senior sister duo of Shaina Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) Saturday. The duo has posted four top 10 finishes during their careers and boast the top two times in the SoCon this season in the 5,000-meter distance.

Shaina has the league’s fastest time at the distance with a 17:21.00 mark set at the Panorama Farms Invitational. She redshirted last season but placed seventh in the 2011 SoCon Championships with a personal-record time of 17:17.41.
