GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) has been named the Southern Conference Women's Runner of the Week for her performance at the Greater Louisville Classic, the league office announced. This is Sumney's second SoCon weekly honor already this year as she picked up the accolades after the Elon Invitational (Sept. 15).

"Chelsea had a solid race this weekend," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "She improved her time from the Elon meet, but I know she was hoping for more. Her training has been great and I am confident she'll be ready to perform at championship time. Being named SoCon Runner of the Week for the second time this season is a great recognition of her abilities and puts her in some special company at UNCG."

Sumney ran a season best 5,000-meter time of 17:31 at the Louisville Classic. Her time is the best mark this season by a SoCon runner by almost 30 seconds as she finished 40th overall in the race with multiple nationally ranked teams. She has the top two times in SoCon this season at the 5k distance after posting a 17:44 mark at the Elon Invitational.

Sumney and the Spartans return to action October 12 as the team will split for the Blue Ridge Open and the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational.
