Cross Country Assistant Coach Ginny Cronley Wins Greensboro Marathon
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG cross country/track & field assistant coach and former Spartan student-athlete Ginny Cronley won the inaugural Greensboro Marathon women’s race last weekend and was the fourth overall finisher among all racers. She won the 26.2 mile race which included 114 women’s runners and was fourth out of 301 runners overall.
Cronley, who was a two-year letterwinner for the Spartans, finished the course in a time of 2:51:07. She held the women’s lead for most of the race and won the race by over 20 minutes against her nearest female competitor. She was seventh overall at the halfway point, finishing the first 13.1 miles in 1:26:01. Her second half split was the second fastest among all runners, clocking in a time of 1:25:05 in the second 13.1 miles.
Cronley spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Spartans and was recently hired on as an assistant coach. She was a two-year letterwinner for the Spartans under Nguyen from 2010-12. She was a three-time Academic All-SoCon recipient during her career as she was a Dean’s List member for three semesters and a President’s List member in her other semester.
Cronley helped the Spartans claim the 2011 SoCon Cross Country Championships, winning by an astounding 45 points in the team standings. She placed 16th overall at the event, posting a time of 17:47.70 in the 5,000-meter race. In her first year at UNCG, she placed 17th at the 2010 SoCon Championships with a time of 18:47.92 to help the Spartans finish third overall.
