GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s soccer team travels to Athens, Ga. to face Georgia Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at the UGA Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans are coming off a tough 1-0 loss in their home opener against Charlotte. The 49ers scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 81st minute to come away with the victory.
UNCG had a couple of golden opportunities in the game as junior Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) led the team with four shots, including one that hit the post in the first half.
The Blue and Gold finished with nine shots with sophomore defender Georgia Brown (Dunedin, New Zealand/St. Hilda’s Collegiate) coming away with two shots.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg/Penn State) made three saves in her first start as a Spartan after transferring from Penn State.
The Georgia Bulldogs played its first contest on the road against Ole Miss and served as the first live on-campus event televised on the brand new SEC Network. UGA tied Ole Miss, 1-1, in double overtime with each team taking 13 shots. Sophomore Gabby Seiler scored the only goal for the Bulldogs and freshman goalkeeper Louise Hogrell recorded four saves in her debut.
The game will be streamed live on the newly formed SEC Network + with commentary from broadcasters Kevin Copp and Lisa Boyd. Fans can download the Watch ESPN app and is only available to customers whose cable providers carry the SEC Network television channel.
