GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2014 UNCG women’s soccer team will play an exhibition road game against Ohio Thursday, Aug. 14 at noon in Athens, Ohio.

The game will be played as three 30-minute periods marking the second-straight season these teams have played this format in exhibition action. Last year, the game ended in a 0-0 draw at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

First year head coach Michael Coll hopes to build upon a solid first week of preseason and see the players in action in their only exhibition of the year. The Spartans were 10-6-4 with a 5-2-3 SoCon record finishing third in the league.

Leading goal scorer from last season, junior Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin), is hoping to make an impact throughout the year. White had six goals and one assist on a team-best 49 shots. The lone senior Ashley Stokes (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) was second on the team with four goals and two assists. Sophomore Georgia Brown (Dunedin, New Zealand/St. Hilda’s Collegiate) had three goals en route to a SoCon All-Freshmen Team selection.

UNCG welcomes seven newcomers to the mix in freshman transfer goalie Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg/Penn State), freshmen Ashley Hurley (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Melanie Spensiero (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), Hannah Hoeksema (Auckland, New Zealand/Avondale College), Jordan Salvador (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview), Kayla Perry (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) and Regan Lehman (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy).

Ohio enters 2014 on a high note finishing the 2013 regular season with its first non-losing record since 2009 (7-7-5) and posting five road victories. The Bobcats return key defender Gabby Hausfeld who played in all 20 games last season and was named team captain for 2014. Sophomore forward Alexis Milesky returns after being named to the MAC All-Freshmen team last season. Milesky tied for the team lead with 11 points and four goals while trying for third on the team with three assists.

The Blue and Gold officially open the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 22 at home against in-state foe Charlotte at 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. Two days later, UNCG takes on SEC opponent Georgia at 2 p.m. in Athens, Ga.
