Women’s Soccer to Celebrate 25th Anniversary this Weekend
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s soccer program will have a reunion in celebration of its 25th anniversary of the program this weekend in conjunction with the Spartans homecoming festivities.
During halftime of Friday’s game against Samford, all former UNCG women’s soccer players will be honored on the field including former players that were a part of the 1988 first-ever team coached by UNCG Hall-of-Famer Jack Poland. Poland led the Spartans for 13 seasons and helped UNCG transition from Division II to Division I finishing with 163 victories as a coach.
In 25 seasons, the UNCG women’s soccer program has had two All-Americans, four Hall-of-Famers, nine conference Player of the Year selections, 15 regular season championships, 42 NSCAA All-Region players and has been to the NCAA Tournament eight times. Joining Poland in the UNCG hall of fame is Ali Lord (1995-98), Raila Maisonlahti (1994-97) and Laura Mussulman (1998-91).
Prior to the game, the Spartan Club will be hosting a pre-game reception for all former UNCG women’s soccer players on the field across from the stands beginning at 5:30 p.m. (No charge for attending). To register for the event and others please visit the Spartan Club’s registration page HERE.

The current team is battling for position in the upcoming Southern Conference championships holding an 8-6-2, 3-2-2 mark in the SoCon. The Spartans will face Samford (11-4-1, 4-2-1) at 6 p.m at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
