GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Top-seeded UNCG women's soccer team prepares to host eighth-seeded Georgia Southern in the Southern Conference quarterfinals Sunday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

"We are really proud of our accomplishment of earning the No. 1 seed," said head coach Steve Nugent. "You have to regroup and get ready for that one and done mentality. I think we are in a good situation right now.  Georgia Southern is a great team and we just had a tough game with them a couple weeks back. We are excited to be playing in the postseason."

UNCG (12-6-1, 9-1-1 SoCon) is riding a six-game winning streak, including outscoring its opponents 10-to-0 during the streak. The Spartans clinched the SoCon regular season crown and the No. 1 seed after defeating Elon 2-0 Wednesday at Rudd Field. The Blue and Gold picked up goals from freshman Katherine Rodriguez (Franklin, Tenn./Father Ryan) and senior Lauren Hein (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance). Rodriguez, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, found the back of the net for the fourth-straight game and tied for the team lead with her fifth goal of the season.

Senior Cat Barnekow (Santa Rosa,Calif./Santa Rosa JC) continues to pace the team with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Hein is second on the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists.

UNCG leads the all-time series against Georgia Southern with a 14-4 record, including a 1-0 victory in Greensboro just two weeks ago. Last season, the Spartans lost to the Eagles 2-1 in the SoCon quarterfinals at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Georgia Southern clinched the eighth seed after a tough 1-0 victory at home against Davidson Wednesday and are led by Sydnie Van Curen who has five goals with one assist. In goal, Katie Merson has a 0.96 goals against average with 88 saves and seven shutouts.
