NSCAA Release

UNCG's women's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Team Academic Award for the 11th straight season, the NSCAA announced Friday.

"We are honored to be recognized for the 11th year in a row by the NSCAA for outstanding academic achievement," said Nuggent. "Academics continues to be an integral part of our program here at UNCG. This award reflects the tremendous commitment that our players have to their education. Our goal is to continue achieving great things within the UNCG community, and this is possible because of the amazing student-athletes that represent us on and off the field."

Coach Steve Nugent's squad turned in a grade point average of 3.35 for the 2011-12 academic year to take the distinction. Eight Spartans earned Academic All-Southern Conference honors for the fall 2011 campaign: Lauren Lover, 3.90, Nicole Danford, 3.88, Kelsey Kearney, 3.78, Casey Godwin, 3.54, Stephanie Partenheimer, 3.53, Kaytee O'Brien, 3.48, Jaimey Etten, 3.46 and Lauren Hein, 3.45.

UNCG was one of seven Southern Conference schools to earn the award, joining Appalachian State, College of Charleston, Davidson, Elon, Furman and Western Carolina. UNCG posted the third highest GPA among SoCon schools.

To earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award, teams must post at least a 3.0 GPA for the academic year. A total of 718 college soccer teams (220 men, 498 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
