Jonathan Harvey Named Women’s Soccer Assistant
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's soccer head coach Steve Nugent has named seven-year collegiate coaching standout Jonathan Harvey assistant coach Wednesday. Harvey recently spent the last two seasons as a volunteer coach at Georgia and five seasons as an assistant at North Georgia.
"I am very excited that Jon has agreed to join us at UNCG," said Nugent. "He is not only an accomplished coach with incredible integrity but he is one of the finest people I have come across in my soccer coaching career. Jon has the experience and passion for teaching that will help our student athletes achieve their goals in the classroom and on the field. Please join me in welcoming Jon and his wife Raegan to the UNCG family."
Harvey came to Georgia in February 2011 as a volunteer coach and worked primarily with the goalkeepers. He helped All-SEC and All-Region keeper Ashley Baker finish her career in the Bulldog record books in nearly every category, going on to sign a professional contract in England and earn a call-up to the Senior National Team's camp following her time at Georgia and with Harvey.
"I would like to thank Kim Record, Jody Smith, Steve Nugent and the rest of the UNCG Administration for granting me this tremendous opportunity," said Harvey. "I consider it a privilege to be able to coach at such an established university and for such a successful program. I hope to be able to contribute to the continued advancement of Spartan Soccer."
Prior to Georgia, Harvey spent five successful seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division II North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Ga. Harvey helped the Lady Saints to a 48-34-8 record in his five seasons, a stint that culminated in 2010 with the program's first ever NSCAA Top-25 ranking and finish as the Peachbelt Conference Tournament runner-up.
As the assistant at North Georgia, Harvey was instrumental in lowering the Saints' goals-against average from 1.79 in 2005 to 1.03 in 2010, a program-best. While at NGCSU, Harvey recruited and trained 13 PBC All-Conference performers, five NSCAA All-Southeast Region selections, and one NSCAA All-American and PBC Freshman of the Year. Harvey worked closely with head coach Chris Adams on day-to-day operations, practice planning, fundraising, travel, and recruiting.
Harvey has ties to youth soccer in Georgia having served as Georgia ODP Staff Coach for the 92 and 96 Girls teams. Harvey has also trained goalkeepers at United Futbol Academy and Gwinnett Soccer Association over the previous two years. He is on staff at Last Defense Goalkeeping Academy in Atlanta, which provides specific technical and tactical training for goalkeepers. Harvey has extensive summer camp experience as well having been on staff at Clemson Soccer Camp, Western Carolina Soccer Camp, and the University of Georgia Soccer Camps.
Harvey played his collegiate soccer at Oglethorpe University and also served in the United States Navy from 2000-2005. This stint in the Navy included decorated combat tours in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq, in 2004 and 2005.
Harvey holds the USSF B License, NSCAA Levels I, II, and III Goalkeeping Diplomas. A native of Athens, Ga., Harvey earned his bachelor's degree in political science from North Georgia College and State University.
He is married to the former Raegan Yeomans of Jesup, Ga., a graduate of the University of Georgia.
