GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG alumna and former Spartan women's soccer player Karla Davis will appear on NBC's vocal competition "The Voice" either Monday or Feb. 20.

Davis, a 2008 UNCG graduate, recently blind auditioned for the second season of the show, which features musicians Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as celebrity coaches who don't initially see the competitors and judge solely on how the competitors sound.

The show, which is hosted by Carson Daly, has three stages of competition: the blind auditions, a battle phase and live performance shows. The show's grand prize is a recording contract.

Now based in Nashville, Tenn., Davis won the 2010 Colgate Country Showdown, a national competition, earning the title "Best New Act in Country Music." The finals were hosted by former winner LeAnn Rimes and were held at historic Ryman Auditorium. The event has featured greats such as Rimes, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sara Evans, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert in past years.

A four-year starter for the Spartans, Davis helped UNCG to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. She twice earned All-Southern Conference honors and was the league's freshman of the year in 2004. She was a part of three SoCon regular-season championship teams and one SoCon tournament championship squad.

Davis released her debut album, "Here I Am," in 2010. Her new album, "360," will be released early this year.

"The Voice" airs on NBC from 8-10 p.m. Mondays.
