GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s soccer head coach Steve Nugent has resigned his position with the Spartans and has been named the head coach at Washington State, the school announced Thursday night. A national search for his replacement will begin immediately.

“We would like to thank Steve for his service and wish him well in his future at Washington State,” Director of Athletics Kim Record said. “He has done a tremendous job here at UNCG, both on and off the field, continuing the rich tradition of success for the program. Steve and his family have been great members of the Spartan family and the Greensboro community. The UNCG women’s soccer program has been one of the top programs in the Southern Conference for the past 20 years and the future is bright for the Spartans.”

Nugent has led the Spartans for the past three seasons, including a SoCon regular season championship in 2012. Under his tutelage, the Spartans posted a 14-3-4 league record the past two years and has coached 14 All-Conference selections the last three years.
