GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s soccer team finished the regular season as the No. 3 seed and will host sixth-seeded Wofford Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
UNCG enters postseason play with a 10-6-3 (5-2-3 SoCon) record after earning a 2-2 draw in double overtime last Wednesday. The Terriers are 8-4-5 (4-2-4 SoCon) after falling in the season finale to SoCon regular season champion Furman, 2-0.
The Spartans are looking to earn their first postseason victory since winning the 2010 SoCon Championship against Samford on Nov. 7, 2010. UNCG went on to face No. 20 South Carolina in the NCAA Tournament and lost 2-1.
Sophomore Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) leads the team with six goals for 11 points and has taken 45 shots. Junior Ashley Stokes (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) is second with four goals and two assists. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez (Franklin, Tennessee/Father Ryan) scored her third goal of the season against Elon. Freshman Georgia Brown (Dunedin, New Zealand/St. Hilda's Collegiate) held the Phoenix’s leading scorer to just one shot during Wednesday’s final SoCon game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Simmons(Houston, Texas/Clear Brook)leads UNCG in net with eight shutouts, 91 saves and 0.82 goals against average in 19 games.
Wofford and UNCG last met back on Oct. 13 when the two teams tied 0-0 in double overtime. Chloe Brackett leads the team with six goals and Maureen Buff has put in five goals. Kimberly Cohn has had a stellar season in net with 65 saves, 0.51 goals against average and nine shutouts. Live stats and live video will be available via UNCGSpartans.com.
