Shaina Sumney Turns In Personal Best Time At Stanford 05-05-2014

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior runner Shaina Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) travelled out to California this weekend to take part in the prestigious Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford, looking to post a strong time in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.

Sumney came through in a big way as she set a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish fifth in the third section of the race. She posted a time of 10:18.13, which at the time of the first race ending was 18th in the region. The top 48 times qualify for the regional race, but there are still meets to be run but her time puts her in contention for a coveted spot. Pippa Wolven of Florida State won the section with a time of 10:06.45.

The 2014 NCAA East Regionals will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., this year from May 29-31. The final date for qualifying times is set for May 18.
